Abstract

The development of technology and global community mobility have resulted in increased energy use. Renewable and environmentally friendly alternative energy is needed, namely the development of bioethanol. Pineapple peel can be used as a bioethanol material because it contains high cellulose with the addition of cellulase enzymes to help degrade cellulose into sugar. This study aims to determine the effect of adding Bacillus subtilis bacteria to pineapple peel fermentation on the levels of fermented bioethanol, and the concentration of bacteria that produce maximum bioethanol. This study is an experimental study using a Completely Randomized Design, with independent variables of Bacillus subtilis bacterial concentrations of 0%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%. The binding variables are the sugar reduction rate and Bioethanol content. The results showed that the addition of Bacillus subtilis bacteria can affect the bioethanol content of pineapple peel. The concentration of Bacterilus subtilis that can produce the highest bioethanol is at a bacterial concentration of 7.5% with an average sugar content of 7.0488% producing a bioethanol content of 1.262%.
